5 Ways Students Can Reduce
The first step toward transforming our environment is to integrate a new set of daily habits. This is a great place to research, explore and implement ideas that will help improve everyone’s quality of life. Let’s get started now by reducing the amount of trash we create!1. Do a garbage audit of your home or class:
- Identify the biggest culprits (plastics, styrofoam, tins, and paper)
- Note how many of these items you use every day
- Try to reduce how many you use and throw away
2. Buy less and throw less away
- Reduce the amount of products you buy to shrink down the garbage you create
3. Reduce the amount of paper you use at home and in the classroom
- Reuse paper that only has writing on one side, cutting the amount of paper you use in half
- Read documents on your computer rather than printing them out
4. Reduce fast food waste and excess packaging in carryout food
- Tell retailers "No thanks, I don't need a bag." Some people might look at you curiously, but if you want to make a difference you should speak out
5. Make sure your trash ends up in the trash can
- If the nearest trash bin is filled, don't toss your waste beside the can. Hold onto it until you can dispose of it properly
