5 Ways Citizens Can Reduce
When it comes to the environment there’s no better place to make a difference than right in your own home. By adopting just a few new household habits we’ll transform Sharjah’s environment for generations to come. Let’s get started now by reducing the amount of trash we create!
1. Do a garbage audit of your home
- Identify the biggest culprits (plastics, styrofoam, tins, and paper)
- Note how many of these items you use every day
- Try to reduce how many you use and throw away
2. Buy reusable, refillable containers and durable products
- Large water jugs, reusable food containers, cloth shopping bags
3. Buy in bulk instead of single servings
- Purchase concentrated products or compact packages
- Buy frozen juices and fabric softeners you mix with water at home
4. Turn things off
- Climb stairs instead of using the elevator
- Turn off lights, TV’s and computers when you are not using them
- Use air-conditioning wisely. For example, by turning the temperature of your air conditioner up to 24 degrees you will remain comfortable and save a significant amount of energy
5. Use less water
- Take showers instead of baths
- Install low-flow showerheads
- Turn off the water while you brush your teeth
