Mr. Salim Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Acting Chairman of Board of Directors, Bee’ah said,
“The launch of Tandeef marks an important step towards a cleaner and more environmentally-aware
Emirate of Sharjah. Forming an integral part of the complete environmental services
offered by Bee’ah, it will bring immediate benefits. Having invested considerable
time and effort in Tandeef, we are confident that we will deliver world-class, environmentally-sound
and reliable solid waste collection and city cleaning and beautification services.”
Dr Salah Al Haj, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality added, “We are delighted
that Bee’ah is launching another service that will improve the beauty and environmental
well-being of the Emirate of Sharjah. The launch of Tandeef reiterates the commitment
of Sharjah Municipality and Bee’ah to provide a clean and healthy environment for
all. The introduction of global best practices, a new fleet of specialised vehicles
and fully-trained professional personnel will ensure Tandeef plays a large part
in meeting this commitment.”
The introduction of Tandeef follows an in-depth study of the waste management needs
of the city of Sharjah and exhaustive analysis of how to best meet these needs.
World-class machinery from Madvac Inc of Canada will be maintained in accordance
in line with strict preventative and reactive standards to minimise downtime. Together
with a dedicated roadside maintenance team, these measures are intended to achieve
the global standard of minimum 95% of full fleet operation at any time.
To maximise the efficiency of this vital service, Bee’ah is utilising state-of-the-art
GPS route planning and monitoring, as well as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
of waste receptacles. These show whether or not vehicles are on schedule, inform
the driver of a vehicle what the optimum route to take is and show which waste receptacles
have been collected from. Additionally, Tandeef operations will be conducted when
traffic levels are low, making their efficiency as high as possible and reducing
congestion further, and will run to world-class Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Also on display on the 190 square-metre Bee’ah stand at the Middle East Waste Summit
2009 is equipment that will be used in its forthcoming tyre recycling and material
reclamation facilities, and demonstrate to visitors the expertise of Bee’ah and
its partners. Additionally, Jeremy Byatt, Director of Environmental Responsibility
will be taking part in a panel discussion on the third day of the conference, where
solutions relating to recycling and landfills will be discussed, including diversion
strategy, composting, recycling, landfill remediation and public-private partnerships.
