(Sharjah, United Arab Emirates) – 23 November 2008 – Bee’ah, The Sharjah Environment Company today announced its involvement in a pioneering new scheme that encourages UAE residents to ‘Make the Switch’ to energy-efficient light bulbs. ‘Make the Switch’ will allow UAE residents to purchase a twin-pack of Illume low-energy light bulbs at the cost of just AED 10 (representing a discount of approximately 75%) from any Emarat filling station. The highly-efficient bulbs use 78% less energy than conventional light bulbs, bringing environmental benefits and noticeable cost savings.
‘Make the Switch’ began on 16 November and Bee’ah is playing an invaluable role in promoting the campaign: 206 of its 3-stream recycling centres installed in prominent locations in parks and on streets across Sharjah are carrying ‘Make the Switch’ advertising, raising awareness of the incentive and encouraging more people to change to energy-efficient light bulbs.
Samer Kamal, Managing Director, Bee’ah said, “Bee’ah is delighted to be helping to promote ‘Make the Switch’, the first incentive scheme of its kind in the United Arab Emirates. ‘Make the Switch’ will play an important role in raising environmental issues; but just as importantly, it will help demonstrate just how easy it is for each of us to make changes that benefit our environment. And as is so often the case with environmentally-sound changes, anyone who purchases a low-energy bulb will also enjoy lower electricity bills! We’re proud to be promoting this scheme on our 3-stream pedestrian recycling centres that are already bringing benefits to the Emirate of Sharjah by offering recycling facilities to the public in some of its highest footfall areas.”
One million Illume low-energy light bulbs will be available at the discounted cost of AED 5. At this price, each low-energy bulb will, on average, pay for itself in just four months, as low-energy light bulbs typically consume almost 80% less energy than a conventional bulb. With a life expectancy eight times greater than a conventional bulb, every low-energy light bulb purchased also means less waste is produced.
The ‘Make the Switch’ incentive is being run by Ecobility Energy Solutions LLC, a UAE-based company dedicated to catalyzing change in the field of regional sustainable development. For more information on the campaign, visit http://www.maketheswitch.ae
